Project Description

Diaz·Yourman & Associates (DYA) provided geotechnical services for the proposed F-35C Engine Repair Facility at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore, California.  The proposed project will consist of construction of an F-35C Centralized Engine Repair facility with reinforced concrete masonry unit walls, built-up roof and pile foundation.  The site is surrounded by the existing Buildings 170 and 179 at the Naval Air Station.  The repair facility will have an approximate footprint of 36,000 square feet (sf).  The facility will include maintenance areas for propulsion systems, engine module storage, pilot fit testing, and administrative and personnel support areas.  The proposed project also will include paving and site improvements including parking spaces, parking restriping, road access to new parking lot, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, pedestrian features, and storm water drainage improvements. The purpose of DYA's services was to provide geotechnical input for the design of the proposed project.  The scope of our services consisted of reviewing existing available geotechnical data, conducting a field exploration, performing laboratory tests on selected soil samples, performing engineering analyses to develop conclusions and recommendations, and preparing a geotechnical report.

The primary geotechnical considerations at the site include potentially high groundwater, potentially liquefiable soils (total and differential seismic settlements), and compressible fine-grained soils (total and differential static settlement).
