Project Description

The Metro Orange Line Extension extends four miles north from Canoga Station to the Chatsworth Station. This dedicated busway offers improvements to north/south mobility in the western San Fernando Valley by connecting activity centers along the corridor and connecting the Metro Orange Line with Amtrak and Metrolink.  Features include:

  • Four new stations and new platforms were added at Canoga Station
  • New bikeway and pedestrian path that runs parallel to the dedicated busway
  • Landscaping
  • New park-and-ride lot at Sherman Way Station
  • Additional parking at Chatsworth Station
  • Elevated bridge overcrossing of Lassen Street and the railroad tracks
  • Public art

Diaz•Yourman & Associates (DYA) completed a Phase I Hazardous Waste Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) in October 2007.  Potential environmental concerns included volatile organic compounds (VOC) in groundwater; underground storage tanks (UST) and leaking underground storage tanks (LUST); evidence of hazardous substances; unlabeled drums, and petroleum hydrocarbons observed at several locations within or adjacent to the project ROW during the site reconnaissance; and the potential presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), a wood preservative used in railroad ties, asbestos, lead, and arsenic from weed killer.  DYA recommended that Phase II surveys be performed.
