Project Description
Diaz•Yourman & Associates (DYA) performed a geotechnical investigation for the proposed flood control improvements project in the Santa Maria River Basin, Santa Barbara County, California. The project scope consisted of reconstructing the riverside levee face. The proposed reconstruction will require excavations along the toe of the riverside of the levee, replacing the existing riprap slope facing with soil-cement, and backfilling of the excavated soils at the toe of slope. The purpose of DYA’s investigation was to provide geotechnical data for the design of the proposed project. Our scope of services consisted of the following tasks:
Marking the boring locations in the field
Coordinating clearance of the boring locations for underground utilities with Underground Service Alert (USA)
Conducting a field investigation
Performing geotechnical laboratory tests on selected soil samples
Performing a soil-cement design study on representative bulk-soil material collected adjacent to the toe of slope
Performing engineering analyses to develop conclusions and recommendations regarding the following:
Site preparation and grading
Seismic hazards, including liquefaction potential and lateral spreading
Stability of the levee against steady-state seepage flow
Slope stability under static, pseudo-static, and temporary conditions
Preparing a written report summarizing the geotechnical lab test results, including soil-cement study test results, and geotechnical analyses, and providing conclusions and recommendations
