Project Description
Diaz•Yourman & Associates (DYA) provided geotechnical services for a project consisting of a new three-story, 180-room guesthouse. The project required obtaining clearance permits, locating underground utilities, performing a field investigation, and laboratory testing. The initial project site was moved after DYA identified numerous utilities. DYA provided geotechnical investigation and foundation recommendations to reduce risk of damage due to collapsible soils by controlling water infiltration, recompacting the upper soils, and using a geotextile reinforced, compacted fill pad and continuous foundations. This project demonstrated DYA’s ability to manage a small, low-budget project at a distant location, while providing innovative, cost-effective solutions to a difficult geotechnical problem. In addition, DYA provided services during construction, including observation and testing of earthwork and base materials below the pavement.
